Ironbridge Coracle construction

Simon N Goodwin, August 2009

As a birthday present my former wife Chris kindly bought me a place on a three-day course building a coracle (a traditional portable boat) at the Green Wood Centre, Coalbrookdale, Shropshire. This page shows the construction process and the fun I had trying the new boat out on the river Severn near Ironbridge on the following August Bank Holiday. I've been back every year since, fallen in several times and scored a goal once in the Coracle Polo, and also spent many happy hours coracling on the Grand Union Canal and the local rivers Leam and Avon. It's gained a few punctures and bits of gaffer tape since, but is still near-enough watertight. Click on the images or links to see the story unfold.
